Curatorial Overview

Burn Off Energy with the Monsters, Play Your Way into New Taipei Culture.

A city’s public spaces are more than places of administration — they also hold the shared memories of its citizens’ lives. With the completion of the New Taipei City Government Sanchong Administrative Building, the city welcomes a brand-new public space. Taking this as its starting point, Hello! Monster! Play Together! invites the city’s youngest citizens — children — to embark on an artistic journey of exploring the city through their bodies, senses, and imagination.

Each of the nine monsters originates from one of New Taipei’s nine cultural venues. More than cute characters, they are embodiments of the city’s cultural landscapes, guiding children to discover the land beneath their feet. Built around the idea of kids “burning off energy,” the exhibition offers an interactive route full of rhythm. Starting with meeting the nine monsters, children move into activity areas such as the Color Party, Monster Disco, and Monster Charging Station, where stories of the city gradually unfold through laughter and movement. In the AR zone, virtual monsters leap off the screen, while amid all the excitement, a reading corner offers families a moment of quiet time together.

Combining interactive technologies such as LiDAR sensing, motion detection, and augmented reality, the exhibition lets children of all ages burn off energy to their hearts’ content. More than entertainment, it is an artistic experience about New Taipei, about culture, and about being “a part of this city.”
